When Kit Met Picasso
SOLD
Chestnut breasted mannikins perch on a coil and slab vessel hand built from dark and white mid-fire clay that has been coloured with oxides and mason stains.
This vessel was made with the tools, underglazes and glaze materials gifted to me by the late Kit Thomas, through her daughter Jocelyn. The surface of the vessel has been decorated with the deconstructed shapes of Banksia flowers that became weirdly reminiscent of Picasso’s paper shapes after being rolled into the white clay body.
This patterning has been overlayed with texture created by the pressed marks of dried banksia seeds and fabric. I've used gold lustre to highlight the bird song and move your eye around the vessel and into the detail.
A thin band of glass mosaic finishes the base.
The vessel measures 15 x 25cm w x h
